Maryna Er Gorbach has created a thought-provoking film about a Ukrainian woman’s therapeutic hypnosis meant to help her transition into life in the military. The film plays more like a dream than a traditional narrative with its celestial camera movement, ethereal score, and vivid colours. Nadiia Karpova has a compelling performance, delivering the emotional core of a woman whose world and psychological state are crumbling. Gorbach effectively compliments Nadiia’s performance with her deliberate and experimental film techniques, which together create a very human portrait of existential dread.
