A small, simple short film (7 min). More than a film, “Oh, Be a Fine Girl, Kiss Me”, is a thought, an idea, something that might go through your mind while you are waiting.
All it takes is good story and research, images that imply but don’t illustrate, and a clever use of voice-over.
In the early 20th century, the Vatican recruited a group of nuns to go through new telescopic images of the sky, map and name the planets. As these nuns did countless calculations, they were referred to as “calculators.”
The film is a fictional voice-over of one of these human computers, after her death, waiting to be reincarnated. She goes through her life choices, her loss of belief, and contemplates her possible futures, maybe as a modern computer coder.
It doesn’t require much to make the viewer think about technology, the religious past, and possible futures.
