The South African Film Festival 2022 is now over Read our Reviews

Message from Ian Merkel (President of the Vancouver Foreign Film Society)

As the original curator to the Vancouver South African Film Festival, way back in 2011, this festival holds a very special place in our community partnership.

In the past few years our society has co-presented films that not only are from South Africa, but also from Southern Africa and the African Continent

—————————————–

In addition to our co-presented film we take pleasure in covering the entire festival each year with reviews and promotions.

All proceeds support Education without Borders (EwB).

We are pleased to once again be a community partner with the South African Film Festival Canada  2022

Our Co-Presented film this year is

THE WHITE LINE

Trailer | Review |Awards

Set in 1963, after the Old Location uprising that shook South West Africa, a black maid’s life is changed forever when she encounters an Afrikaner police officer on a routine passbook check. Their illicit love for each other grows over time through the letters they write to each other, and they endure many obstacles beyond the color of their skin. The White Line is an authentic Namibian story that shows how apartheid laws were extended to the territory, prior to independence, under the South African administration.
