Capsule Review Music Pictures- New Orleans

……..This documentary featuring 4 jazz legends,  well into their golden years, is a delightful film covering different genres of the New Orleans Jazz and Blues Scene. It provides a wonderful snapshot of  New Orleans and its special connection to the Music Scene.

…….Beginning with Grammy-winner Irma Thomas, aka “The Soul Queen of New Orleans, and moving on to Benny Jones Sr., of the Tremé Brass Band the legend of the marching brass bands.

…….Followed by colourful Little Freddie King, one of the last original bluesmen who is still performing live at age 81, and telling his wonderful stories, and rounding off the last part with the late Ellis Marsalis who passed away in 2020 from Covid at 85, performing with his family Jason Marsalis and Marley Marsalis

…….The 4 parts blend seamlessly together with the different genres using humour and fascinating story telling, historical footage, and finishes with the true genius of Ellis Marsalis and son Jason blending Piano and Vibraphone with incredible harmony.

…….A beautiful documentary that will make you want you to visit New Orleans if you have never been. I have only visited New Orleans once on a conference for a few days and am yearning to go back and visit with my wife for a longer trip.

Try fit it into your VIFF schedule, you will be pleasantly surprised.
