Spasm

Islamic Republic of  Iran

Category: Nothing Comes Easy

Spasm is probably one of the most powerful audition tapes you will see. This short film is about Shekufeh, an avid actress whose aim is to get her first cinematic role since her initial experience was unsuccessful and chaotic. Although this film is only about 30 minutes with no cuts and no camera movement, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions..

What makes it even better is the fact that the filmmaker, who also plays the role of the main character Shekufeh, points at issues like sexism which exists within the film industry, as well as her own world in Iran.

I really enjoyed watching Spasm because Sahra Asadollahi gives a stellar performance and makes you watch the entire film without a blink.
BIG DAY   Reviewed by Arash Taheri

Big day

Taiwan

Category : Relational Baggage

Big Day tells the story of a couple who are on their way to officiate their divorce after 30 years of marriage. While they are walking, they reflect back on the
memories they had from when they got married to their current life with their two children.

On their way, they meet an old friend, and they refuse to disclose the news that they are separating.

The husband is feeling remorse and guilt, but the wife doesn’t forgive his unfaithful act.

This is a sad film about a breakup that happens late in a couple’s life. It even questions marriage and what one believes it stands for.
