The Illusion of Distance delves into the enduring effects of apartheid. Boeta Allie, an 80-year-old man who was classified as coloured by the Apartheid government was separated from his childhood friend Isaac Mbenyane who was classified. The two were inseparable as children while living in District 6 before forced removals scattered communities and families across the Cape Flats.

This was a well-made 10-minute film that explores what happens when a decision is made to remove an entire neighbour hood for what ever reason. Of course, in this case it is not for a tent community or for a development, but for an Apartheid decision because of race classification. Up until 1994 there were many occurrences of this  in South Africa, both in Cape Town and Johannesburg
